Hitting Balls and Grabbing Dinner

Last night we had our first date night in a while! Like, intentional date night with no phones, no interruptions, no real talk about work and not in the car on the way to a photo shoot.

Even a short one is a real one in my book!

We headed to Macayo's for dinner to start! So fun. We had our rehearsal dinner here at this very one when we were getting married so it's remained one of our favorite Mexican spots to eat! YUM.

Then we headed over to Cracker Jax to hit baseballs in the batting cage! We used to do this ALL. THE. TIME. when we were dating. It's super inexpensive- like $1.50 for 18 pitches- and it's really a fun time. And a funNY time too. haha. We Periscoped a bit of our time in the cages, so if you want to check that out, you can see that HERE.

It doesn't have to be epic or even cost a lot of money to be fun and meaningful. We revisited a couple of places that meant something to us and it wasn't glitzy, it wasn't glamourous. But it WAS fun and an awesome time to hang out together.

What shall we do next week? We'll see!!

Date Night Commitment

You know what's hard when you're running a small business, raising three kids, in ministry, and have been married for almost twelve years?

Finding time for a date night is hard. Finding funds for a regular date night is challenging. Taking another night to be away is and can be a stressful thought. So often we count our coffees in the car up north or on the way to a shoot as a date night. But in all reality, it's NOT.

Jason and I have been married for almost twelve years which is CRAZY to think about! We can't believe it's been that long! And while we are together very often, finding intentional time to be together and to hang out and do things that aren't work related is a challenge for us.

We are SO busy. Can you relate?

So we have decided to take and accept a date night challenge. The challenge is to make time every week to find a time to have a date. Our finances and budget will make us get creative in this, our lack of time will encourage us to fight for it a bit. But we are excited to carve out time to hang together EVERY week, even if it's only for an hour.

Will YOU do it with us??

We are going to be updating our weekly date ideas and Periscoping them a bit. So follow us on Periscope too if you want to check it out! You can follow us there @jay_and_jess.

Here's to dating your spouse! Whether you're not married yet, been married for a year, ten years or over twenty years, this is something we can ALL be better at.

So let's do this!

Heading Into Another Busy Season

We're about to charge head on into another busy but fantastic season of creating, shooting, traveling, and looking forward. But not looking forward too intently to forget about how far we have come or who we've befriended so far. Photography has been the vehicle, but the amazing people that we've had the chance to do life with and work alongside has been the unforgettable landscape and company that every grand journey has.

We are so pumped for this next season and what adventure awaits. We have a new intern and associate shooter jumping in with us, Jay is embarking on the second installment of #lostdiscovered in a few months, Jess is headed to NINE retreat in a couple of weeks, and we'll be traveling to some amazing new places for weddings throughout the year. As always, we love hanging out with new friends so ask us a question or drop us a line anytime at hello@jayandjess.com. Let's party.

What are YOU excited about this next season?

Fourth of July

We have had a BLAST on our trip. We've been updating on Instagram, but not here as much as I thought we would. But we WILL do a full recap really soon.

For now and today, we are SO thankful for this day and what it means. We are thankful for July 4th, our freedom, and all those who have sacrificed so much for this country to be what it is today. It's not lost on us, all those who had to die and who have had to sacrifice so much for all of us. What a gift!

We are thankful today. For the rain, for our freedom, and for those who continue to sacrifice to keep our country safe and FREE.

How We Met

We get asked ALL THE TIME how WE met.

I mean, it makes sense. We ask all of our couples that same question so it's natural for them to want to know as well.

A couple of years ago, we made a video telling the story! It was really funny to make, and so we're sharing it here again today! Watch it, love it, get to know us.
